How long will it take to upload?
One DZ asked me about upload speed for various camera setting options. This article covers some of your choices:
Background:
We recommend filming in 2.7k
If you do this, then we will upload photos in 2.7k - and we'll upload video in 1080p (by default)
File sizes are dependant on your recording choices, and the larger the files - the longer they will take to upload.
To reduce file sizes, you can do two things:
1) Change the video option to 720p
2) Record in 1080p (which forces the photos to be in 1080p)
All file sizes are approximate, but should be indicative in terms of relative sizes.
Video sizes: 300MB
Photos: 1MB per Photo - so approx 100MB
Total: 400MB
Video sizes: 300MB
Photos: 0.6MB per Photo - so approx 60MB
Total: 360MB
Video sizes: 190MB
Photos: 1MB per Photo - so approx 100MB
Total: 290MB
Video sizes: 190MB
Photos: 0.6MB per Photo - so approx 60MB
Total: 250MB
If you're looking to minimise file sizes to increase upload speed, then my recommendation would be that your first choice is to reduce the video size to 720p.
This will have a much smaller impact on your customer, and a larger impact on file sizes.
We ran FreeFallFilms entirely on 720p for about the first year. The streaming view that customers see today is still at 720p (because it gives the best balance between fast streaming and video quality)
So the only difference is for downloaded video files.
Meanwhile - reducing the 'Photos' from 2.7k to 1080p is in my opinion, a bigger customer impact. They'll be able to see the difference clearly - particularly if they're blowing up images for printing.
