Plug in your GoPro - No SD Fiddling
We have a new experimental feature that allows you to plug your GoPro directly into your computer and import files.
This uses the MTP file protocol. To talk directly to the GoPro.
It's slower than reading files from an SD card, but it avoids the need to eject and reinsert your card.
We can start analysing files as soon as the first one is imported, so the overall speed loss is probably pretty small.
This is an experimental feature. I'm not aware of problems with it, but I don't know what I don't know...
Use with caution, ideally with a backup camera.
You can enable the feature in the drives settings in the edit app.
Unfortunately, there is no way with this protocol for me to write a file to the GoPro. That means I can't write a list of files which have already been imported.
So the options are to delete the files or leave them there, and you have to delete them!
The option to let you delete them is temporary while people test the feature.
If you fail to delete the files yourself and plug the GoPro in again, they'll simply be re-imported. Assuming all goes well with testing, this option will be removed as it will inevitably cause double import confusion...
To use - ensure that your GoPro is set to use MTP for the USB connection (this is normally the default)
Then simply plug in the GoPro with a USB-C cable and turn it on.
(the power button - not the 'start filming' button)
NB: FreeFallFilms is currently configured to recognise GoPros 9-13. if you have a different GoPro (11 mini?) then it may not currently be recognised.
Please get in touch with Rob after connecting so that he can check the identifiers and we can test it.
